Von der auch in der mitteleuropäischen Flora vertretenen Gattung der Storchschnäbel (Geranium) unterscheiden sich
Pelargonien (Pelargonium) unter anderem durch den zygomorphen Blütenaufbau. Für die als Balkonpflanzen gezüchteten
Arten ist aber in Deutschland umgangssprachlich noch die Bezeichnung Geranie üblich, obwohl systematisch unkorrekt.

differ by the zygomorphen structure of bloom. For the kinds bred as balcony plants however colloquially still the designation geranium
is ueblich in Germany, although systematically unkorrekt.
